27four was the first in South Africa to establish a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Asset Manager Program (DEI AMP) in 2007 aimed at accelerating the participation of black and women led funds in South African asset management. Our pioneering efforts have led to the establishment of over 60 black and women-owned asset managers managing in excess of R1 Trillion across public and private markets. 27four were first investor to leading investment firms such as Mazi Asset Management, Aeon Investment Management, Sentio Capital, Prowess Investment Managers, Perpetua Investment Managers, Lodestar Fund Managers, Independent Alternatives, Benguela Global Fund Managers, Excelsia Capital, Mianzo Asset Management, Sanari Capital, Kholo Capital and many others.

I meet the following criteria to be considered for inclusion in the 27four DEI AMP:

Public markets

  1. The company is at least 51% black-owned (women-owned) where black people (women) hold at least 51% of the economic interest and where black people (women) hold at least 51% of exercisable voting rights.
  2. At least 51% of the company’s board of directors are black (women).
  3. At least 51% of the company’s senior portfolio managers are black (women).
  4. The company is registered with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority for the business that the company carries out.

 

Private markets

  1. At least 51% of each private equity fund’s exercisable voting rights associated with the equity instruments through which the private equity fund holds rights of ownership are held by black people (women).
  2. At least 51% of each private equity fund’s executive management and senior management are black (women).
  3. At least 51% of the profits made by each private equity fund manager after realising any investment made by it, by written agreement, accrue to black people (women).
  4. Over the term of each fund, the private equity fund manager invests at least 51% of the value of South African funds under management in companies that have at least a 25% direct black (women) shareholding, post investment by the private equity fund, using the modified flow-through principle.
  5. The management company is registered with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority for the business that the company carries out.

The 27four SA Multifactor Equity AMETF fund is a high-risk fund that invests in SA listed shares. The fund applies style-momentum and machine learning to rotate across styles in a systematic manner while being benchmark cognisant. The funds objective is capital growth and is suitable for investors with a longterm horizon. Given that the fund is focused solely on equities, volatile performance can be expected over the short to medium term. The fund makes use of scrip lending.
